The Nest Coffee House

Brand identity, environmental & product design, photography

Within my role at The Santa Lucia Preserve, I aided in the launch of a new coffee house and ice creamery, dubbed ‘The Nest’, centrally placed amidst the 20,000 acre conservation community.

After some initial directions were proposed by an outside contractor, I was tapped to reimagine the identity and course-correct. Part of the earlier missteps were that the identity didn’t seamlessly blend into that of the larger parent brand.

The following logo system, signage, and product mockups (incorporating the indigenous and endangered tricolored black bird) were presented as proof-of-concept for my proposal.

After careful consideration, the following key insights from my re-interpretation shifted the project into proper alignment:

  • Infusion of warm earth tones and textures to ground the identity

  • Transition to typefaces from The Preserve’s style guide, which I had earlier helped to codify
